New Class for Peers Focuses On Mental & Physical Health

This fall, NAMI Fox Valley was proud to pilot “Hearts & Minds”, a new NAMI signature education course for peers focusing on the need to care for physical and mental health simultaneously. Hearts & Minds emphasizes that each individual is complex, unique, and interconnected from head to toe —  a “whole” human being, not a medical condition or a mental health diagnosis.

The 7 participants who joined us for our pilot run of this 5-session course learned about ways in which physical and mental health are connected and gained skills to care for, advocate for, and improve their overall health. Participants loved the supportive and collaborative nature of the course and left feeling better prepared to holistically approach recovery. One participant wrote to us after the class, “I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend [this course] to others!”

Although our pilot run of this program was offered to a specific group of past program participants, we look forward to offering this course for general registration in 2023. Stay tuned!
