Honest, Open, Proud Facilitator Training
Interested in becoming an Honest, Open, Proud Facilitator?
We're looking for passionate people to facilitate Honest, Open, Proud training sessions. Don't worry; you won't be alone. Co-facilitation is recommended for each training session, with at least one person having lived experience with mental illness. During the training, you will:
- Learn how to support people who come to you about their mental health challenges;
- Learn how to facilitate and recruit people for the Honest, Open, Proud program in school and community settings;
- Connect with other community members who are passionate about promoting positive mental health.
What is Honest, Open, Proud training?
People with mental health challenges face decisions everyday about if and what to say to friends, family, coworkers and others about their experiences. If they choose to disclose, having an answer that points to their strength and resilience is empowering and can be key to moving forward with their recovery.
During the 6-hour Honest, Open, Proud training session, 2 trained facilitators help participants explore the story they have been telling themselves. Participants practice skills to reverse hurtful self-talk and then take a deep look at the costs and benefits of talking to others in the various settings of their lives (friendships, school, social media, etc.). For situations where people decide to talk about their challenges and strengths, the program prepares them to respond to unanticipated reactions. Participants practice writing their story from a strengths-based perspective and, if they desire, share their story with the group.
