Volunteer
NAMI Fox Valley greatly appreciates the work of its volunteers who help us make the organization such a valuable community resource. We are currently seeking help in the following areas:
Office/Clerical Help - Volunteers are needed for tasks such as photocopying and collating class materials, computer work, filing, short-term projects, or preparing mailings. Time needed is flexible.
Media Advocate - Help build public awareness of NAMI Fox Valley by submitting press releases, story ideas and communicating with the local media.
Marketing/Public Relations - Raise and promote public awareness of NAMI Fox Valley services and classes through marketing activities and media contacts. Help is also needed with design of advertisements and posters.
Special Events - Assist with the Summer Picnic or December’s Holiday Party. Help plan, decorate, or serve the meal
NAMI Walks - Walk in fund-raising event to help raise awareness of helping people living with a mental illness. Other pre-, during and post-volunteer opportunities include recruitment for Sponsors, Team Captains, mailings, luncheon plans, set-up the day of the walk, check and a multitude of other jobs that come along
Mental Illness Awareness Week - Help with one of a variety of projects planned for the first week in October to increase community recognition that mental illnesses are physical brain disorders and that treatment works.
Develop Funding Resources - Assist in planning an annual fund-raiser, grant-writing or making community contacts, or membership recruitment.
Outreach Volunteers - Be a part of one of our action groups developing activities to reach out to churches, older adults, schools, or minority populations.
Gardening/Maintenance - Volunteers are needed for spring and fall clean-up and periodic maintenance during summer months; small repairs, painting projects.
Materials Needed - Office supplies, copier paper (white and colored), stamps, paper plates and napkins, cups (hot and cold), cleaning supplies, games for young adults.
Legislative Advocate - Contact local and state legislators about issues related to mental illness..
Archivist - Compile historical articles about and pictures from NAMI Fox Valley. This would be a great opportunity for someone who enjoys scrapbooking!
In Our Own Voice Speaker - Complete separate application and attend training provided by NAMI to do community presentations about your experience of recovery and living with a mental illness.
Family-to-Family Facilitator - Applicants must graduate from the Family-to-Family Course, complete a separate application and attend training provided by NAMI.
Peer-to-Peer Mentor - Applicants must graduate from the Peer-to-Peer Course, complete a separate application and complete training provided by NAMI.
Support Group Facilitator - Applicants must be attending a NAMI support group. Must complete a separate application and attend training provided by NAMI.
SPARK (Supporting Parents and Advocates as Resources for Kids) - Volunteer, Presenter or Facilitator. Contact Karen Schiller for more information.
