What is a CIT Officer?
Crisis intervention team officers are law-enforcement personnel trained to understand the nature of mental illness and how it affects individuals and families, and to strategically combine this knowledge with existing law-enforcement procedures.
CIT officers are specially trained to de-escalate a mental health crisis, effectively communicate with someone suffering from a mental health crisis, assess treatment options and provide support to family members.
